Oakland Protests Test Mayor Quan’s Activist Background - NYTimes.com

It is very surprising to see a great progressive leader demonized due to the cold reality of pragmatism and balancing ideals with public safety and the rest of the will of the citizens in Oakland. I too have an organizing background and as a member of a minority group and growing up in a lower class family, understand the anxiety and mission of the movement, but still think she made the right call, the delivery on the other hand with tear gas and police use of force WAS a bad call by the other city officials. There has to be a way to embrace the ideals of the movement without the blight to downtown and strain to the city budget.

About Me

My photo
I want to continue to add my voice and have a say in future development plans, affecting positive change on all issues, having a voice in local politics and representing communities by having a seat at the table and making a difference in the decision making process. I believe it is not only the right, but also the responsibility of interested and capable citizens to become engaged in local government policy by advising elected officials on important community-related issues. Serving on a Board or Commission is an excellent way to make a personal and tangible contribution.
